Alistair Cox, CEO of Hays PLC has written an interesting article that supports the notion that you should start hiring people who are better than you.
In his article, Alistair says, “It will improve the internal perception of you as a hiring manager. Acting for the greater good of the organisation can bring huge kudos and personal gratification. It will challenge your perspectives and traditional ways of working and it frees you up to do the things you are good at.”
These are interesting and thoughtful perspectives and help us all to see the value in treating our employees and new recruits with authenticity at the same time as permitting them to excel.
Mindful recruitment and hiring people who are better than you could be at the core of the successful business of the future and if so, this should apply at all levels in the organisation.
Have you experienced recruitment like this and if you have, how did you see it play out in the organisation?

I agree with Alistair on this. I have experienced in my own organisation instances where employees have been hired due to a demand to have them working as soon as possible. Mostly this is due to high turnover. However over time it becomes apparent that some are merely interested in reaping the corporate benefits and using the role as a stopgap.
Hiring with the approach of ‘Can this person work well, if not well then better than myself” mindset can secure a longer employee retention, by analyzing if they care about the business as much as you do. Rather than just hiring to make up the numbers of a team or to fill a space.
